7 COMPELLING REASONS WHY WhatsApp IS A MORE SECURE SOLUTION

Just yesterday a client asked me if I had seen the commercial for WhatsApp that involved sending messages with a pigeon due to low levels of security with traditional SMS. A funny and attention grabbing commercial. Our team did some research and we have come up 7 compelling reasons as to why WhatsApp is considered a more secure solution.

WhatsApp includes:

  1. End-to-End Encryption: Messages are encrypted on the sender's device and can only be decrypted by the intended recipient. If the messages are intercepted during transmission, they cannot be easily deciphered.
  2. Secure Communication Channels: Make it difficult for third parties to intercept or tamper with the messages.
  3. Authentication: WhatsApp employs strong authentication to ensure users are who they claim to be. This helps prevent unauthorized access to messages.
  4. Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): This adds an extra layer of security to user accounts and enhances protection against unauthorized access to the app and stored messages.
  5. Security Updates: They are sent out regularly to address vulnerabilities and improve the overall security of the platform. Users are encouraged to keep WhatsApp up-to-date to benefit from the latest security enhancements.
  6. Secure File Sharing: Files shared within WhatsApp are encrypted, providing an added layer of protection for sensitive information.
  7. Controlled Access: WhatsApp allows users to control who can add them to group chats and who can view their Last Seen status, providing users with more control over their privacy.

So if you or your team are texting regularly you may consider a move to WhatsApp. This does not replace the need for our users to remain vigilant about privacy settings and keep their apps updated to mitigate potential security risks. Additionally, organizations should consider their specific security requirements and compliance standards when choosing communication tools for employee use.

The River Run team wishes you a Cyber Safe Week.
