… we will all be using Microsoft Teams for IM, meetings and calls. To prepare, we recommend you have users install the Teams app, if they have not already. You can find the application for download in your O365 portal or at https://teams.microsoft.com.
As you know, Teams is an app full of features from the O365 stable, but do not let that deter you. You can still chat similarly to Skype for Business.
Simply click the Chat icon in the left-hand navigation panel. Then Click the New Chat icon above the contact list and it is business as usual.
Here are a couple of tips to make your chatting within the Teams app more efficient.
- If engaging in a group chat, preface user names with an @ sign. These ‘@mentions’ make it easier for users cited to find and follow up on messages they need to address.
- If you do not think there is a need to respond to a chat you are a part of, just click the ‘like’ icon. This is a great way to acknowledge that you have received it and read it.
- Should you forage into actually using Teams for topical chats, remember to click reply in a thread rather than just typing a new message there. It makes thoughts more persistent and easier to follow.
