When Paul Riedl, Jr., co-founded River Run in 1993, he had no idea that 30 years later the company would be the lawyer preference and the leading managed IT and cybersecurity company in Wisconsin, due to a strategic acquisition with a company called MicroLaw.
MicroLaw was a legal technology consultant consisting of experienced lawyers and legal administrators who brought decades of practical experience to assess document management, practice management, and time/billing & accounting needs. Services included comprehensive on-site workflow analysis, personalized recommendations for each practice, live and remote training, implementation, technical support, and local IT coordination.
“We then had an opportunity to acquire a company called MicroLaw that specialized in software creation, solutions, and consulting for law firms,” said Paul.
At the time of acquisition, MicroLaw was only five employees, but their skillset was not just great for law firms, it was impactful for most of River Run’s clients and prospects. Some prospects included MicroLaw’s clients and eventually other law firms that River Run could now serve with the unique expertise and advantage in the market that the merged teams could provide.
Paul went on, “We now had the total expertise and ability to figure out IT problems for law firms when no one else could, and we knew that successful and growing law firms were going to need a team like ours as more of them moved digitally into the future along with the accompanying need for security at the highest level.”
For River Run, we started to grow our reputation as the go-to for law firm IT support. Since clients do not want you to just fix one program or problem, the River Run team very quickly started mastering other lines of business applications that law firms use, including applications such as Amicus Attorney, Time Matters, PCLaw, HotDocs, Cosmolex, iManage, Worldox, and more.
Navigating the Pandemic
When COVID-19 forced companies out of their offices to work remotely, many were left unprepared and without the tools, resources, or guidance to be able to work where they were successfully.
“We were getting flooded with calls from attorneys and other businesses who desperately needed help transitioning to a remote workforce fast. A lot of IT service providers failed their clients during this time because they were unprepared themselves and therefore unable to help,” explained Paul.
River Run’s proactive approach and dedicated team ensured our service team was designated as Essential Workers, allowing us to continue serving healthcare providers and other essential industries. By following federal, state, and local guidelines, River Run prepared checklists for work-from-home transitions, asset management, and cybersecurity, saving our clients hours and days of time to focus on their own client service rather than operations.
The Number One Choice for Law Firms
River Run's deep understanding of the legal industry's unique IT needs has made us the number one choice for managed IT services in Milwaukee law firms. River Run offers tailored solutions that ensure law firms remain secure, efficient, and compliant with industry regulations. Our expertise in handling critical legal applications and providing top-notch cybersecurity measures gives law firms the peace of mind they need to focus on their clients.
Free Consultation Gives You the Peace of Mind You Want, The Certainty You Need
Another service that River Run provides to prospective clients is a free IT and cybersecurity assessment so they can know, with certainty, if their current IT person or company is doing their job. “It’s really quite shocking how many small businesses are being woefully underserved by their IT providers,” Paul remarked.
“Your average CEO or small business owner simply cannot know for sure if they are protected from ransomware, have their data backed up properly, and are getting the service they are paying for – so many are not,” said Paul. “Further, no one should proofread their own work – so we offer that assessment as a free service so they can get a qualified third-party opinion and fresh eyes on their current IT infrastructure.”
