Password Do's and Don'ts

We store a lot of sensitive data online and go through a lot of measures to ensure the data is protected.  Passwords are intended to help prevent unauthorized access to your account information, and should not be shared.  To keep the information safe and protected you need to follow basic dos and don’ts when it comes to your password.  See the chart below for some of the basic dos and don’ts regarding you passwords.

Pick a password you will remember, so you do not have to write it down.

Use personal information that could easily be guessed.

Choose two lines from a song and use the first letter of each word, this will be easy to remember.

Create a password using your user name in any form.

Use a combination of upper and lowercase letters.

Use blank spaces in your password.

Use  different passwords for different accounts.

Use words contained in the English dictionary.

Make your password easy to type, this will make it more difficult for someone looking over your shoulder to notice.

Use an alphabet sequence (ABCDE), a number sequence (12345), or a keyboard sequence (qwerty).

Keep them to yourself.

Reuse any of your last ten passwords.

Use at least one special character.

Use sample passwords that you can find on different sites.

Change your passwords regularly.

Use a password shorter than 8 letters.

Change more than one letter when making changes.

Store your password anywhere.
