Typically when your business starts out you can just get computers on an as needed basis.  However as your business grows you need to start looking at the bigger picture and invest in your technology to continue this growth and avoid downtime, errors, and breakdowns that will slow down your productivity and sales.  How do you know when it is time to bring on additional IT staffing?  Below are 4 signs that it is time to consider IT support.

1) You missed an important deadline-   If you were preparing for a large presentation for a client or prospect and suddenly you could not access certain files or your computer crashed, you may have been in a lot of trouble.  If your system is set up properly and getting regular maintenance, this will become an issue far less often, and if it is ever an issue you can have a professional troubleshoot your network problem for a resolution.

2) Losing valuable time- Many small businesses bill by the hour for their services.  If your billable hours are dropping because you are trying to work on network issues that you are unfamiliar with, it is time to bring in the experts.  You can then pay someone to do what they are good at, and you will then open up more time to be paid to do what you are good at.

3) Your network has become too much for your friend to handle-   Often smaller businesses find it best to use a friend who is good with IT, just as their side job.  However at some point your network will need to become more than just a side job, because your business cannot be held up when they are not available.

4) Your data is being backed up-  If you are not backing up your data, or do not have a specific plan to backing up your data, you need network support.  What is your businesses plan if a hard drive crashes or a natural disaster happens?  This will cause a major disruption to your business, and when you put a dollar figure to it, it is easy to realize that It help is need to set up a  disaster recovery plan.
