Vista SP1 will be available soon, and will be included on the Windows Update. Generally, installing the service pack is a good thing, the beta version has been known to speed up slow running devices. There have been some reported problems and there are some applications that are not compatible as stated above. If you don't want SP1 and you have automatic updates enabled, you can download the Windows Service Pack Blocker Tool to prevent it from being installed.
